Odd speedo problem

My speedometer has developed a strange problem. Sometimes, after a bit of faster - eg motorway - driving if one stops and then starts going again fairly soon, like stopping at m'way services, the needle will register zero until some mystical and variable speed is reached when it just suddenly starts working again.

This is not too much of a problem usually but the other day it didn't kick back in until I was doing 80 and I didn't think I was going that fast. (No I hadn't looked at the tach )

Any ideas anyone?

Used to have same problem on my '95 C250D. The needle sticks on the little pin that it rests on. A quick clean by the local garage sorted it. Hope this helps.

The cause of your problem is that the paint on the instrument needles and stops becomes tacky after a time and stops them from moving until the potential has built enough to break the hold, it is a common problem on the W202.
To confirm this is the problem, next time it happens give the instrument pod a slap on the top, the needle should pop up. If so this has been discussed often before and you should find the solution if you use the search facility.
Come back if you can't find what you need.

And I am number 3 saying the same thing, just slide some sleeving over the pin or clean as said above

C220GJS answer is bang on, I had the same problem as yourself and cured it by scraping the paint off the pins at the point where the contact the needles, the problem never occur again.
