i had this when i replaced clocks with a second hand set

i think its 'cos the mileage stored in the clocks doen't correspond to the mileage stored elsewhere around the car ( more than one mileage memory nowadays)

merc may be able to fix or various mileage correction people do a google

Yes, this is common if exiting the SBC software in the wrong order. The car must go back on the diag machine, go into SBC & then come back out again following all the correct exit paths.

c'mon then boys....

what is sbc ?

You mean sensonic braking control.

It is a fly by wire system where the brake pedal is not really in contact with the brakes as such.
This braking system pressurises its self as you get into the car, and remains active. If it is raining, then the pads gently touch the disc to dispel any water.
A very light touch gives superb braking and the system is also used for for holding the car still at lights, etc, apart from SBC hold there is also SBC hold, on cars from 07 2003 on.
Though only on the SL now, some of the functions are used on the new braking system, cant think of the name right now.

type 49 knows more about this than me.

Normally when a dash cluster is changed the information is down loaded into STAR and re loaded into the new dash cluster.

New system (on the W211 E at least) is called Adaptive Brake System - hydraulic braking system including HOLD function, hill start assist, brake drying and priming.
It appears to have all the SBC properties without the noisy pump.

Thank you young man, and without the fly by wire as well.

my original dash got well and truly toasted.
lovely merc replaced on warranty but all info had to be manually input.

to keep me on the road i bought second hand cluster which i 'd like to keep as spare
but it reads dashes instead of miles.
is this because someone has exited the wrong way

I think that you could download the info from your current dash into the spare one if you wanted to, only on STAR though there is an EPROM in the cluster if it was not from the same series then it does not recognise the current data being offered to it. it would respond to a download from your current cluster

I will take a chance on that as long as you promise never to leave this forum.

I read your postings on the Hanz threads and I do agree that it confirms nothing.
