As you can probably tell from the title I've made a very big mistake!
My sister owns a mercedes slk (not sure which exact model) and has left it in my care while shes away for a while. I was checking it over today and noticed a mark on the bodywork, This rubbed off when I applied some water so my idea was to clean it off thouroughly whith a sponge - only problem is I used the 'rough' side of the dishwasher sponge! Now there are some fine marks (scratches) on the body work. Obviously I need to get this repaired but how do I do it? should I ask the mercedes benz dealership for advice? and roughly how much would this cost? I'm a p*ss poor student so will need to get this done professionally but cant afford to pay over the odds.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me,

Thanks.

Be careful with the T-cut and don't rub too hard, you will want the fine compound stuff.

Another alternative is Brasso the household metal polish (don't laugh I'm serious), it has a small amount of fine compound in it.

I use Autoglym paint restorer followed by their super resin polish for light scratches I find it much better than T-cut it's not too expensive and works exellent

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm going to look into using some form of polish as recommended on this board. I dont think the scratches are too bad as when I apply water to the surface it dissapears - until of course the water drys, then it reapears. Hopefully it should be ok:confused:

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I totally agree with Malcolm 210, Brasso is just about the best and finest rubbing down compound you can get. It is also the cheapest!

A lot of second hand car dealers use it by the gallon to bring back the colour to faded body work.

Make sure you use a good quality car polish after, you will be amazed at the result.
