Dark brake fluid is more pronounced at the callipers where it gets the heat.
In the tank it rarely changes colour as it’s not mixing.

Yes I don't think it will look so pretty when I start to bleed the system, just better do some re-search first for the correct fluid, got some new DOT 4 here that I hope will do the job?

if its 229.51 its designed to do 2 years

after this modern additives capability wains....

So is that to say that oil has a shelf life (not referring to the stuff that has waited 70 million years for us to find it).

Like brake fluid (opened) is it pointless carrying stock to use next year or so?

yes now have a short shelf life !

recent stuff I've been reading suggests modern additives break down and stop working / may even cause harm

I used brake fluid that had been in an opened container since my last change 2 years ago , still shows as perfect on my home tester though

You will get varied views, yes, no , perhaps. I change my oil and filter every 3000 miles or six months. Some will say its a waste of time and money, however, its my car, my time, my money. There may not be provable benefits of an early change, however, it gives me peace of mind. I also change my tyres at 3.5mm tread depth.
The oil is the life blood of the engine. The tyres are the only thing keeping me on the road.

Whenever I get notification of a thread resurrection I always need to go back and check what I have posted in it because I usually can't remember. :D

Your car covers roughly 6k miles per year. Mine covers around 5k and am perfectly happy to wait a year between changes.
Most tyre manufacturers and motoring groups recommend changing at 3mm which is 1.4mm above the legal minimum, so to add a further 0.5 on top of this is overkill IMO.
I would argue that there is very little difference in wet weather grip between tyres of 3mm and 3.5mm tread depth, so all you are doing is increasing the frequency of change. Plus as we know modern tyres can be very expensive!

As you rightly point out though, it is your car and your peace of mind. :)

but its OUR planet and you are using resources poorly....

if its your pride and joy and you do min 10 mile runs, 2 years of 6 to 8 k miles will just save 100 quid.... and if the world was linear it would last twice as long

which gives u till about 2025 to enjoy your grandchildren instead of 2022 at the rate were going
