Don't know what the acceptable range is (it will be in the manual though) but anecdotally normally almost nothing. I've not had an il6 for any period but I have had a V6 and an il5 at that mileage and neither have used any oil. Maybe 1L/10,000 miles but thats about it.
Why, how much are you going through?
Thats a get out of jail card really. With Mobil1 that's 1p per mile, just in oil!
I had a friend with a V6 Passat that drank oil. He couldn't get it looked at because it was technically within the 'official' consumption figures.
I have a 5L can of diesel semi synth oil in my garage. I bought it 3 1/2 years ago and have 4l left. In truth it didn't really need the 1L but the conputer said it would take it and I thought it would prompt assyst to give me a few more miles. It didn't.
That said, I've had assyst updated now (fully synth setting to 12500 mile intervals instead of 9500) so I wonder whether it will be more flexible now.
hi redenhall, welcome, i have had my e300 td for 11 yrs, 190,000 miles, during this time with mixed journeys, urban / motorway i consume 1 lit / 10,000 miles. recently i started to lose oil due to me not sealing the filter bowl correctly. i was amazed how much oil i lost with just the very slight seapage, i also discovered that the lower foam lined engine covers can hold 2 litres of oil without you knowing. i learned this by standing the panels vertically for 3 days and observing the quantaty of oil which dripped out into my steel oil tray.if you are not experiencing the blue smoke (not black), then may be you have an oil leak? best of luck. herbiemercman.
My sprinter (ok it's a van but its a 2.2 CDI engine exactly the same as the smaller C and E class) says 1L per 1000km the same. but in extreme conditions (whatever they are) it could be higher. This is according to the manual. That's alot of oil.
Mine uses about 2L between services which end up being about 18,000 miles. but it did have a leaking turbo (which has now been fixed).
If it IS using the "limits" of oil then i'd suggest having a look at why.
