Did anyone else get woken up by the noise of the Depot exploding?

I was fast asleep in bed when it went off and even though I must be about 8 to 10 miles away from Hemel Hempstead we heard it so loud that we all woke with a start.

I looked out the bedroom window wondering what on earth it was but could only see that a lot of garden lights and alarms had been triggered by the noise but nothing else.

I was quite surprised to hear that the noise was heard over in Holland and France. I just hope we don't get everyone rushing out to buy petrol now, but my guess is that we will.

Yes we heard it - We are about 25-30 miles away in North Herts, but heard an explosion, and the windows rattled a little, got up but couldn't see anything. It was only when we watched the news later in the morning when we realised what it was!

Must have really good hearing in Holland, or no double glazing.
All nice and quiet in here Yorkshire.
Apparently there is a big black cloud of muck and poisonous fumes over London - so nothing new then.

Heard in France & Holland eh! No doubt with a following wind & ear trumpet.

We heard nothing around Gatwick, except the beeb giving out thier usual sensationalistic views on what COULD have happened!

1st it was 25,000 gallons of water being doused on flames, then 12 hours later it was 25,000 litres and now thats turned out to be 32,000 litres.
No doubt when the documentary is made we'll hear a completely different story.

They were reporting yesterday on how well trained our fire brigades were in treating blazes of this nature, and yet they seem to have failed miserably.

Even I know you cannot put out an oil based fire with water, as my local fire officer kept telling for the last 15 years that I had my workshop in the same building as the local Fire Station.

After 15 years of having to get on with these ego tripping / booze cruisers who call themselves a so called "proffesional firefighting force" I am really not surprised that the fire is still raging and the the plant has now been declared a complete loss.

Just my over cynical views coming to the fore again!!
rant, rant, moan groan doom n gloom!

Yes I do live in Watford, well kinda Oxhey Hall really :p

Having said that though I am a northerner really and like they say, you can take the girl out of the north, but you can never take the north out of the girl:rolleyes:

My poor son got woken up by the explosion too. I had to laugh, it was his wedding night and he was staying in some lovely hotel in Chenies with a four poster bed and I am sure neither of them appreciated being woken up so early the next day :-o
