Hi all, I have not long since purchased a merc 190 (D Plate 1987) I noticed a leak and thought it might have been one of the gaskets but upon inspection it seems to be coming from the oil filler cap!!

Is this because of it's years or is it a common problem or is it a sign of something more serious?

I'd hope just buying a new Cap would solve the problem

Oil filler cap Leak

it could be of of two things-faulty rubber seal on the underside of the filler cap-check it to see if it is perished or cracked-

or excessive pressure buildup   in crankcase blowby gases causing leakage at filler cap.

changing the filler cap would be my first step-if problem solved, then fine if not-then investigate further.

Oil filler cap Leak

Karcher Jet Washer, with the patio attachment thingy, it works a treat, but for gods sake dont put your hand in the path of the water, otherwise it'll be blown clean off!!!
