Oil Filler Cap/Neck (on an E320)

There’s a slight oil leak coming from the oil filler cap/filler neck of my 1998 E320 (W210 V6). Although it is not causing a lot of oil loss, it runs down the side of the engine and needs wiping off every few days. My question is; how do I remove the filler neck from the top of the engine to check the seal? I can turn the filler neck by about 20degrees and I’ve tried pulling it up whilst turning, but to no avail. Is there something holding it in place from within?

Thanks a lot for any help…

Off the top of my head I would have said that it was fitted from the inside, is the oil comming out of the cap,or where it joins to the rocker cover.

Bit confused. I thought the cap simply fitted into a slot on the rocker cover. I'm not aware of any neck on mercs. Post a photo?
The caps can leak as the seals go, but that's just a case of replacing the cap - cheap and easy. Any more that that's I'd expect to have to relmove the rocker cover.

It seems to be from the joint of the neck and the rocker cover. If it means taking the rocker cover off I'll live with it for now.

Yes, there's a plastic filler neck a few inches tall which (somehow) fits onto the rocker cover.

Hi Ian,
My CLK 320 is the same engine as yours and has the same problem like yours.
You only need to change the whole filler neck assy, you can get one from MB and fit it youself by using a large monky wrench n turning it anti-clock-wise until 360 degree then it will come off it's notch.
