oil filler tube 320 cdi

While changing my engine oil I was also checking how to change the gearbox oil and tried to remove the cap from the g/box filler tube. Can anybody advise on how to remove this without breaking it. regards AA

Mine is broken, but it still forms a good fit so I've left it.

You can buy a new cap from MB - £0.33 + vat

Twist the rectangular bar and it will break off. Poke the remainder through with a small screwdriver. Retrieve the O ring from the tube once you have pulled the cap out. You will not find a dipstick in there - you need to buy one from dealer or ebay etc. Fit a new locking tab as previously described when you have finished.

Is there an engine oil dipstick available? Under the cover mines just got a red plastic plug.

It depends upon the car. The newer ones appear to be missing the engine oil dipstick as well as the ATF dipstick.
