The earlier thread on this subject that is now closed wasn't quite correct with the information given.
Just so people aren't misled into unneccesary going to a dealer to do what is really a very simple job with no special tools, here are the details.
The oil filter on the A170 is immediately to the left of the dipstick in the engine bay. It is under a black domed plastic cover which has a moulded 27mm nut on the top. Mine was labelled 'diesel' which put me off initially thinking it must be a filter connected with the fuel - but it isn't!
The paper filter cartridge comes out with the plastic cover and also has the two o-rings that are to be replaced on the cover. It's all quite obvious once it's in your hand.
The old oil can be 'dropped' out of the engine sump by quite simply unscrewing the 13mm bung right at the back of the engine at the bottom. (It lies horizontally, not vertically - if that makes sense!) Because of the shape/angle/position of the engine this will seem quite a long way back! The offside plastic undertray will need to be removed to access the bung. (The old oil doesn't have to be sucked through the dipstick tube like a lot of forum threads will have you believe.)
Hope this helps and saves you hassle/stress/pennies.
