Hi,

I have a 63 plate CLS Shooting Brake which is experiencing an oil leak which only seems to occur when I am parked at a decline. Horizontal or incline parking seems to be fine. Went to my indie today and there was oil within the engine bay but couldn’t work out where the leak was coming from, so this has been cleaned up and then need to pay a visit a week later so that they can determine where the leak is happening.

Any ideas on what the issue could be? Anyone experienced this issue? Hoping it’s nothing major.

If it's the 3ltr probably oil cooler seals. Was it a mercedes independent you went to

well its just a guessing game based on what you said OP.
The mechanic is cleaning the bay and waiting to determine is doing the right thing.
The fact its on the oil tray is of course an effect of the leak.

patience and see what the mechanic comes back with.

Not specifically a Mercedes only indie but a German indie. Also it’s the 2.1ltr engine

It occurs on the incline because of the plastic under trays . The oil sits happily in them until it reaches an angle , the runs out .
Mine happens on the decline rather than incline. Think possibly you might have meant decline above?

+1 and if it’s running off the undertrays it needs sorting out sooner than later
It’s going back in on Wednesday to the indie. I did motorway (Bham) and it’s been fine in terms of the oil level and no further leaks seen.

Agree. Just hope whatever it is, it’s not too expensive.

Depends where the undertray holes are buddy ?? (I can’t spell decline so I used incline instead ;) )

So went to the indie today and (apologies in advance if I am incorrect due to my lack of mechanical knowledge) but confirmed an oil leak near the oil filter and the pipe leading to it and also the sump. So parts are being ordered and installed some time next week, understand will need to replace the oil and possibly filter as well. Hopefully this isn’t a major hit financially but so glad I’m getting paid next week

Oil collecting in belly panel and running out lowest corner take cover Down. Put cardboard under car see where oil drops
I understand some crap seal design fails and allows oil leak.

It’s really leaking from several (3) places? It sounds a bit like they’re not 100% to me?

So get covers off. Take somewhere get it blasted off clean. Have a look around, check breather cap for c case pressure and hope that's OK.

Oil filter housing/cooler is common on these. If the leak is in that area, I would replace this first and see if the sump leak is really there.
