oil level E240

I have an E240 1998. The oil level check shows normal even when it needs oil as indicated on the dipstick. There are no other symptoms.

Any ideas where the fault is, sensor or wiring? Does anyone know where the sensor is on this model?

I would think that I would ignore the warning, there are many mods for this circuit including re programing of the instrument cluster, If your car does not use oil,leave it.

I think the point here is that the dipstick indicates the need for oil and the sensor doesn't.

I'd put some oil in!

How much oil is required? On my E240 the sensor only speaks up when one litre is required. So the level could be below max on the dipstick without the sensor generating a message.

You have to trust the dipstick over the electronics
