******, ******, bladdy, bladdy, bleedin thing.

The idiot light comes on telling me the oil level is low, but the dipstick says it is NOT, no way, in fact, it is half full. Perfect.

Any ideas what could cause the light to malfunction like this?

TV, many thanks. Would I be a fool to attempt to replace it, or IYHO, is this a dealer only tweak.

In fact, as the car is due a service in 900 miles and requires an AMS/AFM replacement, I might bite the bullet and get the stealer to do the lot. Trouble is, I hate stealers and have no experience of the one at Cribbs Causeway near Brizzle........

Email this chap for a new MAF airmassmeters@btinternet.com they are pukka and not the crap off ebay, give him the part number though.

Sensors on the V6 are a weak point, easy enough to do yourself.

right hand side of the sump should be visible from underneath, I will dig out some WIS info on it later.

Jib, that would be great, thanks very much!

Hi,
You say its half full, i take it you mean halfway between the full and minimum mark on the dipstick, top it up to the full mark.
Mine on the AMG Comes on at about halfway between the low/high marks top it up to the max mark its gone out.
Worth a try before shelling out for a new switch and fitting.

****** good point, perhaps I should do that 1st. I did think that running the car downhill might have caused the sensor to see less oil if it located at the back of the sump... I'll top it up and let you all know.

By the way, how did I end up with a C240 when I really wanted a C43 Estate?
