Spoke to a bloke the other day who looks after a fleet of cars for a chauffer company my work uses and he told me that he'd put a second oil level sensor on the block, about 5mm higher than the one that triggers the level light on all the mercs they had.

Has anyone done this or heard of it being done? I've done a brief search but as soon as it sees the word "oil" you get nearly the whole ****** forum back.

He didn't say what he did with the signal nor how or what he did to alert the driver as to the oil reaching the now newly defined upper lower point, if you see what I mean :?

Seems like a good idea to me, as the W124 drinks a fair amount of oil, as they do...

It'd be really cool to replace the existing orange only level light with a two tone led that wend orange first then red as it got the two signals !!

Talbir; sounds like a job for you !!!

Seems like more trouble than its worth, sump off etc, the orange lamp seems fine to me, i.e. if it comes on you pull out the long stick thingy, check, and add oil as required, easy.

yeah.. I know whatcha mean. He didn't say aything about sump off.

I'm proably in denial about my head gasket replacement; focussing on things that aren't a problem......
