Oil light coming on

The oil light is coming on from time to time on long 'fast' bends and very occasionally when breaking hard.

The oil pressure gauge has always gone straight to 3 on the scale when the ignition is switched on.

The oil needs to be changed. The oil level is correct.

Any ideas what is causing the light to come on? I'm suspecting the sender (if combined) may be shot as that could explain both symptoms, however I've no idea where it is. I have a look at the .ru site and it would appear to be part of or near the oil filter, does anyone have any ideas?

Was the sender particularly sensitive to low (but not too low) oil pressure?

Any other ideas or words of reassurance?

I know that on early 300TEs this can be an issue. I think the detector is low on the sump. It's probably the same problem

With a 250TD it's certainly not G-force that's causing the problem...

Are you thinking oil temperature on the sump rather than pressure?

If it's not g-force dropping the oil level a bit below the pickup then I'm guessing bad switch design somehow.

Do you know if there was ever a fix (apart from ignoring the light). Certainly the guage going full on all the time (even with engine not running!) suggests the sender needs replacing anyway (unless the wire is shorted out somewhere)

If I can find it then I can disconnect it to see if sender or short or guage at least. :)
