i have e220 cdi y2k. when i drove around, and couple of days, there are some kind of oil layer deposited on all four wheels.
don't know why this is happening, apparently there is no leakage in breaks.

Do you by any chance use a silicon solution to clean your tyres I had this problem with a cleaning solution to make your tyres shine I used to get the deposit for a few days after applying the tyre cleaner.

I am sorry, I did not clear my self. The oil deposited on alloy rims.
And no, I am not using any thing to clean the tyres.
I am sick of cleaning the oild from rims every morning.

Probably just general road muck I suspect. My wheels get greasy too, from oil from other cars, be it exhaust and dropped, diesel from trucks, the list is endless. Theoretically, the brake dust should just dust off the rims if there were no grease making it stick
Then again, (rhetorical - don't actually do this!) try not using any screenwash for a week or two and see what happens to your windscreen!

Oil on Wheels

Hi

Check the outer CV bellows - to check that one hasn't ruptured. Ideally take off the wheel to inspect. If it's happened recently - it'll have thrown grease onto the inside of the wheel rim and possibly onto the inside of the wheel arch, although this is definately a grease, rather than an oil.

Another thing it could be - is a leaking front suspension strut?

Do you mean to say that he could have a problem with n/s & o/s rear?
Outer cv joints and both his front shockers could be leaking it sounds a bit far fetched to me all these problems at each corner of the vehicle [Do you happen to work for Mercedes]

Oil on wheels

Numbnuts/JBerks

I mis-read the post, I assumed it was just one wheel, but as it's on all four - I've absolutely no idea.

Its definetly not coming from outside driving, becuase I have three more cars and have no problem.

So I guess I'll have to take it to the only Mercedes dealer , who by the way sucks.

A daft thought struck me. Has the garage put some grease between the hub and the wheel to stop the two sticking? Alloys tend to corrode onto the hub over time. I would still go with the shiny tyre stuff though.
