oil pressure

hi all , can anyone tell ne what causes high oil pressure mines reading top of the gauge when driving, or could it be a faulty gauge,cheers wayne.

thats how its meant to be... can drop as low as 1 bar at hot idel

All early Mercs run with the oil guage 'on the top peg' except when idling with the engine hot when it will drop to about 2 bar until engine speed is increased.

As stated in the other answers this is normal, but for the record,
all oil pumps have a relief valve that is set at the factory to blow off at a given presure. I have never known one to be faulty and stick.
