oil usage

i hope everyone is well...

i have a great 1988 190e with 79,000 miles on the clock  but the oil seems to need topping up every 1000 miles or so - is this normal?

also does anyone know a good place to get my car serviced in Brighton?

Hi jim,
I have a car of same year and oil does need topping up after continued long runs on motorway. I read a reply on different matter, I think from Andy, talking about the oil filler cap. If it hasn't got white writing on the filler cap then it is the old type and oil will leak from the seal they are cheap to replace apparently but I haven't bothered yet because I like the rainbow shine my car leaves on the road.
Incidentally my oil pressure is pretty much constantly at 3 on the gauge whether running or idle. It does flicker up and down sometimes but only when it feels like, is this something to do with the crankcase breather or something else?
