Oil warning message

I've had the oil warning message come up a couple of times since I've owned my 08 M Class - is this an actual warning or just done on number of miles or similar?

Each time I check the oil it looks fine.

Not supposed to happen under normal conditions. If oil level OK then sensor unit needs checked or replaced. Back to dealer me thinks

used to have that come up on my 07 plate r,class, used to eat oil up to 10.000 miles than went away, you say your oil level ok, as geogrea says a trip to your dealers wouldnt go a miss!!!!
