Those who have read my post on W124 water pump will know the fun and games I had, although Since I have done the pump, whether its coincidence or not it has started producing massive emmissions, to the point where its smelling like pure fuel coming out. Could the coolant and pump change have caused this? I had the following off the car:
Air Box, Radiator, Viscous Fan, Aux Belt, Tensioner bar thing, & PAS Pump. I also un plugged the idle control valve although I have re connected it since.

It smells that bad I left it ticking over in the drive for three or so minutes while I defrosted it tonight, and nearly killed the family in the house, and its still smells now.

Sounds like the cold start device is stuck on ,, though it will smell when the car is cold and the air heavy, have you got the car really hot yet

I didnt notice it when I got home last night. When I saw it the engine was super cold, so was the car it was frozen up inside !!:???: but it seems to put out alot of smoke or steam or something from the exhaust when I was sat at lights, it looked like I was being stalked by a smoke machine.

Yeah I did to be honest it was well worth, especially getting the block clean and just generally improving it, I just wish I'd have done it in the summer when it first started to whine at me, that way it would have probably only taken a day, rather than the two days I spent in the frost with no shelter. Funny thing is I have a garage I could fit 3 E class's in, but its so full of C**p I cant even get a lawnmower in there now! even on the second floor!!!

Exactly I have boxes that travelled from Blackburn to Cambridge, Cambridge to Wales, Wales to Windermere, Windermere to Blackburn, Blackburn back to Cambridge, then fianally resting in Eccleston Chorley. Never ever opened most of them! I was thinking how good it would be if someone like halfords or something, rented out ramps for the day!

I'm sure that there is a place round here (Milton Keynes) that used to be a busy servicing and repair place where you can now rent out a bay by the day - indoors, ramps, power, plenty of space. As you drive past you'll see about 15 Polish guys hand washing cars where the pumps are (long since out of use).

Since the engine burns hydrocarbon fuel, a large proprtion of the exhaust gas is water/steam, this is called ice smog in the states as the steam condenses immediatly (if its cold enough i.e. icy cold) on contact with the atmosphere and traps some of the oily/carbon part in the condensed water.
What you can smell is some of the more volatile exhaust gas components evaporating from the condensate.
The "problem" persists until your exhaust system gets up to at least 100C or so throughout its length.
