To me it seems these new remap and engine tuning shops don't cater for older cars.

Years ago tuning must have been done some kind of way so why doesn't businesses now do it? Do they lack the skill? Quick ecu chip and maximum profit?

It is all to complicated and very little can be changed to any worth while effect on most, we have the diesel chipping guys that cover most

A brace of s210 1998 e300 turborustbuckets. Toyota HiLux Surf kzn185 3.0L
Too many engines, not enough camshaft manufacturers?
£300 for a new map as opposed to £3k+ for an uprated engine?
All ecu controlled injection now as opposed to carburettors?
Advancement eh...
A lot cheaper but gone are the days of dirty fingernails and a sense of pride with what you've achieved, plus the ability to get it going again if it ever let you down.
What do you guys reckon?

What tunning mods are you thinking about ?

Nothing too serious, Just I'm on my 3rd old timer now but all of them have nothing that could be done for them at a realistic scale. The scale being your better off saving the money for a newer model.

You could depending on the engine type of your w202, tune it according to budget. If it's a kompressor you could have a pulley made up for you or buy one off the shelf. Or you could go down the road of making and fitting a turbo to it if you'd prefer that.

What engine size is yours?

Only 2L. No Kompressor... My 300ce had no mods for it same as the 500sec without serious cash. Old cars still have chips in them like newer cars, obviously not as good though. It wouldn't be justifiable doing a turbo set up on it, that kind of money could be better spent, I'd rather just buy a c43. I can't see why old cars with some form of ECU can't be manipulated.

the engine needs to have a turbo to be able to increase performance by any significant extent via the remap route.

Without a turbo, the increase in performance available is not worth the expenditure.

As you will know, all modern diesels have a turbo (or two ) fitted, and increasingly modern petrol cars too.
