The nationwide computerization of mot stations roll out is not yet fully completed ........some garages are still (legitimately) on the old system.

Think yourself lucky, there is no second chance for fixing anything once started on the new system.

I got stung for a retest as I forgot to check my 'handbrake'. I never use it.

The computer system means you could be stopped when leaving the MOT point and retested. You are not in any danger, but the MOT station could be.

Ironically, when my car did pass and I went to drive away, there was a faulty bulb. The MOT guy was a bit concerned but I had it fixed within a few minutes as I had a spare in the glove box. The MOT guy offered t fix it for nothing but I had it done in no time.

Thanks folks

I feel a little relieved. But the question is whether the record about my old style manual MOT will be stored in the centralised database or not? If yes, how long it may take to appear. I've checked my car's MOT history on www.motinfo.gov.uk it shows that the MOT for my car has been expired.

No, Your old style mot will not be on any database, also, you will not have the option to tax the vehicle online as you can if you have a 'computerized' mot.

my understanding is that a paper certificate is also produced if the system is down at the time of test, this is the approved fall back solution.

I am a little suprised at the suggestion that the details are not later entered into the system, I would have thought that they are needed to justify the road side checks where number plate recognistion is used to pick out the untaxed, uninsured and unMoT'd motors in a stream of traffic.
