Older Sat-Nav

I went to Wales on Saturday and the same thing happened as it did last year when I went to Wales. The Sat-Nav kept trying to divert me down into the West Country rather than straight along the M4 and over the bridge into Wales?

Well today as I had some time on my hands I went into Sat-Nav settings and found that ‘Avoid Toll Roads’ as selected.

I can only assume the my elderly (aren’t we all) Sat-Nav still think the M4 into Wales is a Toll road.

What variety of C220/satnav is yours? Mine is 2008 S204 pre-facelift with Comand NTG4, so MB stopped issuing map updates after the 2018-19 one, so my satnav often has me either on the wrong road (for a while anyway) or in a field. Good example near me is the new link road and J10A on the M20, every time I head for Folkestone, as soon as I turn off the A2070 before J10 to take the new link road and join the M20 at 10A it thinks I'm on the old A20 until I've been headed East on the M20 for about 5 miles! Add in the fun of finding somewhere in one of the myriad new housing estates like where daughter's inlaws now live - amusing! At least Google Maps is useable on my phone in the car without internet connection (I don't do mobile data!!) so I can get close with Comand then use Google Maps for the last bit!

Maybe your satnav has heard of the new 20mph speed limits for Wales and thinks that no right thinking Mercedes owner would want to drive there

Not entirely sure until I check but my S203 is 2007, with the latest Sat-Nav disc I would guess is a APS system.

2007 S203 is one of the last 203's, as that's about when the 204 came along! I also had an S203 before the S204 - it was a C270 as the road test reports I read before purchase said the 220 was under-powered! However, I bought it in about 2010 and can't remember if it had satnav! However, whatever satnav system you have, the fact that it's a 2007 car and MB decided long ago to stop issuing map updates for 2008 cars with Comand (like my S204 with NTG4 and SLK280 with NTG2.5) suggests you'll struggle to get an update later than if you're lucky 2018. Give comandonline.co.uk (forum sponsors) a call with your VIN (or use one of the free online VIN decoders you'll find online) to find exactly what your car came from the factory with, then comandonline can advise what upgrade is available to you and how to do it. They're not that far from you, at Lightwater Surrey a couple of miles from J3 M3 and know more about MB ICE/Satnav etc than any main dealer!! There's even a decent pub a short walk up the road from them for a bite of lunch while they do their thing!!
