Om642 Air filters

Hi, I got these from CP4LESS for only £26, which for Mann filters I thought a good price. However, as you can see they lack the plastic frame that the OE and some other aftermarket filters have. How critical are they, should I send these back. Cheers

I always use MB or OEM parts wouldn’t use anything else not worth the risk of it either not fitting or damaging the engine

Left side has the mesh. Looks to be some kind of turbulence device . Air flow ... fitting will be ok. The purpose I'm unsure...

I wouldn't too much about an air filter, but I would be concerned if it were an oil filter.

Wow... just wow

Have a chat with some of the indies on here and get their take on aftermarket parts and sensors...

Original parts don’t have to be overpriced. Quite often with a bit of negotiation you can get genuine parts (with a warranty that actually means something) for less than patern parts.

Original parts also fit without issue and they work as designed. Not copied.

If you can find the OEM then all well and good. If not I’d start with genuine and see what deals you can get.

You're not going to damage an engine by using a pattern/copy air filter!

Had too many problems in the past and to me it’s a really good habit to get into even air filters can collapse

Heres the Mercedes air filter for my c250. Something like £60 at the dealers. Made by Mahle ... now do I fit mahle or go genuine ??

We should continue this thread. I often find that there is one tiny subtle difference between the dealer stuff and the OEM aftermarket products. I wonder if it's more to allow differentiation than for functional reasons. I also think strange things go on in the background, more than once have I seen a ECP van parked outside my local .. dealer.
