I did my timing chain today on my om651 engine, I basically timed the engine then did the attach chain and spun crank until the new chain was in but first I left it on the camshaft sprocket and it took the cam a tad out of time so I finished the chain and fitted new sprockets removed camshafts and then when I refitted them they were out of time so I looked on YouTube and it says put engine in tdc again unloosen cam sprockets and adjust cam with spanner until timing marks line up then fit the cam lock tools and tighten everything plus the cam sprockets, then I fitted new chain tensioner so the crankshaft pulley is lined up and so are all the marks on my camshaft I turned engine over by hand feels okay maybe a tad tight but wouldn't know as it's my first chain job. Should the engine technically be in time? It was confusing me thinking if the valves could still be in a different position even though I timed the camshaft to the crank just don't want to risk starting and my camshafts either break or valves hit piston no real info on Haynes or YouTube just tells you how to time engine is still open so want to try everything to prevent a bad day thanks

2 complete turns of crankshaft should return everything to original condition. First time I refit the cams last week I somehow manged to be 20 degrees out and it was quite obvious very quickly. If you can give it the 2 turns (4 for safety) and the tensioner goes in without needing force early on then you should be safe.

Turn the crankshaft with everything tightened up? I did that for around 4 turns and nothing seemed to hit all marks are lined up, all valve cover is back on now and injectors are in thanks

Supposedly the cam sensor adjusts timing as well when you fit a new one so I did that

Just re read the first bit, yes, but you had already worked that out. I did my original turning without injectors or glow plugs, just to make sure I was fighting as little compression as possible and "feeling" the mechanics of it all.

I understand I did all the turning, without injectors in like you say. It's smooth until the compression stroke then a bit of resistance but goes back smooth after that fingers crossed
