Anybody tried buying their tax disc online yet?

I did it tonight, it's pretty easy. The main advantage seems to be that you don't need to even have your MOT or insurance certificate to hand. This saves a lot of searching of the house to find these documents and then bundle them of to the post office with a cheque.

Tried it a few times now, and works well - better than having to queue at the Post Office for an hour.....

I didn't even know you could buy your car tax online, does anyone have the URL for it? I wish I had known as when we sold the Mercedes and picked up the VW it came with no tax and the stupid dealer had given us the wrong registration number for the car so we weren't able to tax it for the first couple of days.

You can check the current status of the tax on a car and when it last changed hands.

The one thing I would have liked to see was the list of previous owners. The site says that you can view the data held by dvlc, but they must have more data than you can see.

I can see why they don't let everybody see the address of the current owner, it would mean that you could follow up on road rage incidents without involving the police.

personally I wouldnt like that, think about it.... the criminally inclined sees a car/bike he likes, notes the registartion number, vists DVLA website....... I think you can see where im going with this

Also I think it would be in violation of the Data Protection Act

if you are that way inclined better to finish the fight by the road side, if you go round to his house he may have 5 brother's all bigger than you.

The DVLA charge you £2.50 just for using a credit card. What a cheek!

Simplicty itself - takes less that 5 minutes and the disc arrives within a few days. no extra cost if you use direct debit, with the Credit Card a 2-50 charge is made - approx half a gallon of petrol - cheaper than driving down to the Post Office.

I can't believe that you live so far away from a Post Office that you find it cheaper to spend £2.50 on fuel. I just nipped out from the office and didn't use any fuel. I could do 30 miles on £2.50!

That reminds me of an amusing incident. One of my friends had small cut on his forehead and I asked him what happened. He admitted there was largish lady, that worked at the post office, that usually wears low cut tops. When she was counting out his money, he leant forward for a better view and cracked his head of the glass. Unfortunatly he caught the edge of the thing you talk through. I don't how he explained what happened to the lady at the post office.

Apiel - my nearest Post office that does Tax Disc's is 7, yes Seven miles away, 14 miles return journey = half gallon of petrol at 30 mpg which is the amount that my 190E, 2.6 does to the gallon. Just as cheap and no waiting at the queue, if I were to use the credit Card, prefer Direct debit. Unfortunately the ladies? at our Post Office are nothing to look at so no benefit there.
