The original cable is a D2B cable and 5m seems about correct.

It may be possible to cut your existing cable (clean, square, cut with a very sharp blade) and fit new connectors, if there is enough length remaining.

There are also three other electrical cables (12v power, wake-up signal, and Ground).

Hi mate, mmmm the suggestion of just cutting the fibre optic cable with a sharp knife fills me with dread, i splice fibre optic cable for a living working in telecoms and its not quite that easy believe me. the best way to cut it is with a fibre cleaver this will give a clean cut at 90 degs then you will need someone with a fibre splicer to splice it for you. best of luck.Allynne.

I use fibre optics for music systems. A join there should never be if you want perfect sound reproduction.

I was not suggesting to splice the cable and broken-off connector tail back together again. In any case I was under the impression that the connector and part of the cable were taken with the CD changer.

I was suggesting to make sure that the broken end is cut sqaure and then fit a new connector plug to it. (Most telecoms cables are glass and its a different matter to the plastic type used for DB-2.) The cut needs to be clean and square (sharp blade), but otherwise there are no problems. The cables are sold in bulk reels and the connector plugs are available separately. All the connector plug does is to hold the end of the optic cable, which if cut clean will transmit properly.

I also do this every day on many different comms cables for electrical systems. You have nothing to loose by trying it. If the cable is still long enough to reach the CD changer and it has not been stretched to much or torn inside. It will save you time and money from instally a new one!

I may have picked it up wrong, what Arnie is suggesting is correct. I hope whats left of cable is long enough and is undamaged.
