Hi All,
I have just bought a used oris/mercedes towbar for my S class, and am wondering if anyone has a instruction/fiting booklet they could email or fax me. It is a orismatic and can be seen on www.oris-gmbh.de , however I have fitted the towbar but the wiring I am unsure of & so have left it. Most of it has mercedes block connectors, but there are some loose wires along with the earth.
I have tried 2 mercedes dealers & they dont have a clue, so I emailed ORIS in germany & they said mercedes write the fitting instructons for the tow bar & not them.
Can anyone help?

Ta,

Bruce.

Bruce. Does you Orismatic have the 13pin socket as part of the towbar. If so have a look and see if there are three of the pins missing? On the one fitted to my 320CDi W211 E class pins 10,11 and 12 are not there.

This means that charging a caravan fridge is going to be a problem (if that is your intention).

I mailed Oris on this and got no help whatsoever. Downright arrogant in fact. Let me know what you find cos I have some info that might assist.

Hi,

There is one plug with 12 wires in it but it has about 18 pins! The photo is too big to put on the forum & I can't compress it anymore , but if you give me your email address I will send some pics.

Regards,

Bruce:D

Malcolm.......The pic Bruce sent me of this is of the inboard end if the cable not the towbar which is what i thought. Do you know if this car has canbus wiring for the lights and a SAM unit controller hidden somewhere? The connector looks like it could be something that locks into a scart type socket a bit like a mini ECU plug.

What a nerve!!!

Customer service, yes at a price!!!

I contacted customer service in the netherlands via email, explaining that I bought the towbar some time ago and have just got around to fitting it, when I realised there were no instructions & could they help?
This email followed:

Dear Mr Mould

Mercedes-Benz Model: S-Class

Thank you for your recent e-mail of 11th March 2007.

In response to your enquiry, the fitting instructions for the oris matic towbar are available on the Mercedes-Benz workshop website:

https://workshop.aftersales.daimlerchrysler.com and the specific information that you are requesting can be found in group 31.10

Thank you for contacting the DaimlerChrysler Customer Assistance Center with your enquiry.

Should you have any further requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

Michael Bacon

I followed the link, and well you guessed it, I have to pay for the fitting instruction!

They must think that everyone who own Mercedes have more money than sence & will hand over money for the sake of it... I am starting to really dislike Mr Mercedes....For all they know I could have paid almost £2000 for that towbar, & to ask someone to pay for the instructions speaks volumes..

Well after all of the searching it is not on my list, though it is for other cars.

Sorry about that.

Wiring Diagram

I have fitted the towbar after getting some instructions from a friend at the dealership. There is one wire (purple/red) which should only be installed when a trailer is fitted.
I have posted the instructions on the towbar thread.

Please Find attached!

Where di you get your secondhand towbar please. Have just bought a 2000 S class 320CDI and need one for my trailer - not caravan so simple electrics will suffice.
