When I turn the wheels on my S430 ('99) when the car is stationery using full lock (e.g. to get out of a parking space) there is a "clonk" from the right hand (OSF) wheel audible in the car and felt through the steering column.

Does anyone know what does this indicates (and how much it will cost to the nearest £1,000!)?

Paul,

Its probably a shot ball joint on the off side. Get it thoroughly checked out as there maybe alternative sources such as steering box (hope not). If its a ball joint then the cost from an Indie should be less than £100 to include alignment check. If its an MB stealer then it will probably have to go back to the MB works for a complete front end rebuild and cost £billions!

if its a 140 check the front springs, somtimes you get a 'dong' noise
when put on hard lock, they are notorious for breaking on that model
