Anyone

I'm maybe,and I do emphisise,maybe!!,about to swap my car 500se 89',for a 230e also 89'.
Now this car is good condition all round (Iv'e allready had a good look it),99k,no leather (I have),mot oct this year (mine Feb 03),only his two front windows are electric and dont work (which he says needs a fuse,I think he's talking bollocks,if its only a fuse why didn't he put one before he advertised it!).
I have "power seats" he doesn't,I have a history up to 97k he says he's got hardly anything.
Now before anyone says anything!,I havent done anything about it yet,now I know I'm loosing the leather, two back windows, and not forgetting the power difference.
But because I have just lost my job,I'm thinking about fuel consumption over all,I'm just trying to think whether or not I'm prepared to loose my luxuries (and some money),cause' like said in an earlier letter,I cant seel this car up here,at proving to be dam near impossible,so can I have some help on this please.

Regards

Merc.

I would have the 230 over yours any day, but that is a personal thing, as i don't like your model, (nothing personal).

As for replies, i started work yesterday at 2pm, and got in this morning at 4.30am, i'm sorry for my delay in replying, but the 3 1/2 hrs sleep i managed was much needed!!

Dave

Its wasnt aimed "personaly",I know you work weird ours, well you would do the swap, given what I'd be giving up.
I dont like the shape of it much either (mine that is),but  I know you guys allways say about service historys and as far as know this car has either none or very little, but it drove excellent,I'm still thinking about it but just dont know.

Sorry dude , had a chicken orential weekend with the ladies ...

Hmmm , im just trynig to work out how much less the running costs would be in the 230  . All mercedes petrol models are heavy . ce is nice sounds like it needs some work ..

If you want to cut back on fuel costs , get a 190 Diesel or somthing like that .  But then you ahve the problem of getting rid of your own car ..

hmmm , touch one .. ill think and get back to you..

Before making any final decision, there is an interesting article in the latest Merc Enthusiast mag on coupes, have a good look at that, then have another HARD look at what you are thinging of getting. The article is based on the old 123 series, but the principles will be the same i'm sure.

I think you should get in smartish, Merc. If nowt else you will be able to move the 230 on. May be a 190 or a diesel might be a bit cheaper to run, but if the 230 is sound it might be a better bet in terms of overall running costs.

Thanks Guys

So the verdict is "do it!!!",I kinda wanted to yesterday but the fact that windows didnt work (which he said was a fuse) bothered me,(I should have suggested taking a fuse out mine, then if it didnt work just say "well the dealls off",and walk away),and he said there was no or very little service history bothered me also.
I did like the shape of it as opposed to mine,I heard you guys saying to people before "dont buy if no service record or at least some!",thing is too, what about all the money spent on getting it going right eg the "missing" I mean almost £400,I gonna loose all that.Plus if this car does the same thing,I need to do it all again!'mmmmm'.
But yea I know your all saying,so you reckon I should do the swap, and forget all the luxuries I had.
I'll maybe give him a call, (thats if its still there of course),and let you know, once again thanks for the opinions.

Merc,

at everypoint in peoples lives, there is a period of cutting cloth accordingly. In your case, unfortunatly you have just lost your job, which is a nightmare for you, and we all sympathise. Like you said earlier, should someone on the rock and roll be driving about in a 5 litre Merc?? i think not. Go for the smaller option. it makes perfect sense for the time being

Hi Matt

Yea, I know it really is killing both of us trying to keep car on the road, the other half still has her job,but she's really "breathing" down my neck now, going about in it,and I know deep down she is right.
I just dont want to give up my luxuries, but I suppose needs must, and apart from that, its stopps the nagging as no doubt your all very aware of.
No offence if women are listening, yes I no most of you talk more sense then us guys, (well at times anyway!).
Treading on "thin ice" aren't I,I'll stop just now,so I can retain the family jewels!!,or I'l be sleeping with the dog!.

Hi

Well I called just now,and he said "I was hoping you'd call me back",y'see he wants the car,and like I say I suppose I want his,but I dont want to seem to keen, and neither does he,my god what are we like!!,so I'm gonna go and do the deal probably,I just hope I dont regret it.
I asked how it had owners it had,he said 3,but he said he's waiting for the service book & second key (which I think he's talking bollocks) from the previous owner.
mind you Iv'e a cheek,I'm still my log to come back from the DVLA but he's not bothered,Iv'e just to post it to him,but at least Iv'e got my 2nd key!.
Well guys looks like this is it!,well thats providing everthing works as I said to him,as it does on mine.So I'll be the owner of a 230e or not.
I'm just wary cause' Iv'e had so many "duffers" in the past,I mean I'm gonna struggle to fix this up should it need anything expensive, loosing my job!.Well theres one thing for sure, the "manager" better not moan now if it Iv'e made the right decision, well we'll see.

Regards

Hello Merc,
I have always liked the model you have but feel that it would be very hard for me to justify to my wife if i bought it,so it seems like i will just have to stick with the one i have at present which is a model w201 190D 2.5 .
