my 560SEC has probably covered 200000 km and was privately imported from Hong Kong with 54000 miles showing.
the data card shows it being first sold in Malawi (Africa!!!) Mercedes did not sell this model here in Australia so part and information are in short supply!!!!
The outcome of this history is that all the sub-systems that are not essential but which define "luxury"have fallen into disrepair or are disabled.
my current project is to restore the outside temperature function..presently it reads invariably +3 degrees.
to this end i have acquired a new sensor and cable but cannot find the existing one..i am asuming one is fitted as i get the +3 degrees output.
can anyone tell me where to look either at sensor end or"gauge"end.
are there any tricky bits once i find the thing?
thanks in anticipation

Sensor normally found mounted on front bumper behind number plate . certainly on 190 and w124 series it is. Next connection plug is somewhere close to the main fuses unit beside the brake servo on rhd cars.

Temp sensor mounted on number plate holder - remove number plate and you'll see one Phillips screw holding the sensor onto theback of the number plate holder.

The loom from the sensor runs into the main fuse box - the 2-prong connector is under the main fuses. To lift up the main section of the fuse box, remove fuse box lid, and along the front end of the fuse box body you'll see two Phillips screws - remove both and lift up the main internal fuses section. Underneath will be lots of looms, but one will have a 2-prong connector. You can disconnect the plugs connecting the looms, open up the connector on the loom coming from the sensor and pull out the old sensor loom from fuese box. Then guide through new sensor loom pins (green and brown wires) into fuse box and hook up to connecting plug. Then re-connect looms and re-fit fuse box section.

Should do the trick.
