On my 380SL(1984) the temperature starts to rise to max (idle and moving)and only reverses when put heating on full blast. Cooling fan seems to work OK. Can anyone suggest a cure pls.

Sounds like you have a blockage in the main radiator
Try disconnecting the hoses and flushing it out with a hose pipe , Try to use as much pressure as possible , some of the gunge in rads can be hard to shift.

Don't forget to flush the heater Matrix as well .. to give a nice clean system.

Also it is definatley worth changing the thermostat in case it isn't opening fully or at all.

Those two usually cure most cars with those simptoms.

When refilling remember to use antifreeze in the rad water (It stops corrosion and prevents the futre blocking of the rad)

are you sure the fan is working properly?

is it an electromagnetic fan clutch type or the thermo-viscous coupling sort?
