Owner of a 2006 c180 with a grating sound entering the cabin

Hi I love my car a low mileage (60k) 2006 c180 se kompressor. But. I have been chasing the cause of a rotational grating sound which is audible in the cabin. I have had the front wheel and running gear checked and replaced a dead drop link. I have also had the auto box serviced. The noise is still audible when the air con/ blower is switched off. I come here in search of answers.

Sound is audible only when on the move and is effected by engine load.

Does the sound change at different engine revs but at the same speed?

I got excited by the mention of the word load and then saw you had mentioned 'engine load' and not heavy load in the boot/back seat.
Engine load dependent sound could well be vibration carried sound.
Driveshafts.....????
