William,

Mercedes alloys are laquered, so any oxidation means the laquer has been damaged and moisture/road salt has attacked the unprotected alloy.

The only real solution is to strip off the laquer, polish out the corrosion and re-laquer. This can be done locally if the corrosion is minimal and the design of the wheel lends itself to it. Good results can be obtained with brush-applied laquer if you take your time and have reasonable "brush-skills".

If it's gone too far for DIY, there are plenty of wheel refurbishers around. They're about 50 quid a wheel around London, but I'll bet they're cheaper where you are.....everything is!

I was wondering why products that claim to restore back to original luster did not work. I never would have thought that the wheel is coated with lacquer. Thus giving a yellowish color to some of the spots on the metal.

My wheels are the standard 20 slot. I will check around and see if I can find someone in my area since I am disabled and it takes me a long time to complete any project.

Thanks for your help Paul!
