Hi everyone, I would greatly appreciate some help with the problem I am having at the moment..
Here is the situation.
An engine management light (yellow) came on my Mercedes A180d Sport Premium 2018 plate (automatic) about 3 weeks ago now and have had a nightmare trying to sort this out
I took it to get an MOT with a standard garage and whilst i was there I had a diagnostics test and they came back and said it was something to do with the soot particular sensor. They cleared the light and came back, I went back the next day, they cleared it and it came back again
I then left it a while before going elsewhere but realised that I needed to go to a MB specialist so I took it to a local garage MB specialist
I left the car with them, when I went back a few hours later they said they had cleared the light, drove it for 10 miles or so and it stayed off and the car drove totally fine. So I took the car and drove it for about 30 minutes (car felt fine and normal, as it has this entire time) and then boom the light comes back on
I took it back to them and they ran the diagnostics using and I quote 'Star Computer' and came back with the fault code P3005E7 - it also says on the diagnostics report, "Fault code indicated is (P3005E7) that is stored which relates to the position of Throttle valve is impulsive. Reset Throttle valve stop & cleared fault code"
That is word for word what it says on the report.
So I am at a situation where I have no idea what is actually wrong with the car because both garages are telling me different things - don't get me wrong I know that I should trust the MB specialist however from researching the both, it seems that the DPF sensor (what I think is the same as the soot particle sensor) seems to make far more sense to my cars current state of driving
Fast forward to now, I am starting notice that the car is seriously underperforming compared to what is was when the light came on the first few times - I am noticing that the gear changes are 'clunky' and the when I press the accelerator the car is lacking in power
The reason I am asking is for 2 reasons, firstly, based on your guys's expertise and knowledge, is the car, at the current state safe to drive? Will it go into limp mode if I carry on pushing it
and 2, because I am booked in with the MB specialist on Tuesday 8th Nov 2022 at 8am but I start a new job on the same day at 6am and need the car to drive a good 15 miles at 60mph to get there - so I am stressing about whether the car will make it
So i am looking at an alternative garage called 'FIXTER' (www.fixter.co.uk) and they claim that I can get my car booked in for the repair on Monday 7th Novemeber and it will be all fixed and repaired the same day and dropped off to me which would fix the entire problem
But the problem is, on fixter you have to manually select the repair and pay for it in advance but I have no idea whether it is the DPF sensor or the throttle body that i need to select
anyways I would love to hear your opinions, I am in a pickle with it at the moment and have about 3 days to sort something out
Thank you so much for reading this and I look forward to your replies, I am going to be very active on here so if you reply I will definitely reply very quickly after.
Thanks again!!!!
PS just took the car out for spin on the motorway for an 1.5 hour drive at 70mph and car made it back totally fine, no problems at all driving, literally none. But the engine light is still on.
