I want to change the front pads on my 2004 C200K as I am unable to locate a workshop manual (the car has the "sports package" with larger calipers and Mercedes Benz lettering across them) I need to know what size the 4 bolts holding the calipers are?...whether they are torx or allen key? any advice on the procedure would be appreciated, or links to such information.

It depends on the make of the caliper, it will be 18mm or a 7mm Allen key.

You can put your hand to the rear and feel what you have, either the 2 bolts or the 2 pipes with a rubber bung in the ends, they use the 7mm key

On car with sports package the pads are held in by 2 pins. knock them through, squeze back the pistons and change the pads!!

Thanks Guys,

For the advice...its all about having the confidence to give it a go!!...I have done disc and pad changes before on other vehicles... (including a 190E some years ago that needed new pads every 7,000mls or so, however gently it was driven) but in the absense of any manual to follow..I am working blind here. I now realise that the 4 torx bolts holding the caliper together are not to be touched (thanks for the warning) when the pads are taken out. If its just a matter of knocking out the retaining pins and removing the springs etc..it might prove to be an easier job that some I have tackled before..

Thanks again, Paul
