disc+pads

Hi bill312D,I have not tried these ones but if you search a bit there is a firm doing mintex matched disc's and pads, bought a front complete set for my son's 311cdi absolutley great pefect fit and they are a well know brand so no problems and they supply a lot of maufactors as OE, been around as long as me,did see the one's your talking about but decided to pay a bit more for peace of mind, lot of weigth on the front axle of a sprinter in a quick stop!! his were £67.00 for front axle set of disc's and matched pads, recomend them to any one, Mike.:D:D Ps do yourself a favour and buy new pair of sensors (only £5.00) from europarts, not a must have but while your doing them a might as well thing.;)

No lights came up onthe dash, and it pulling to the left when i brake sometimes now so i guess a set have gone or something..but no warning light, obviously i changed senors with the pads.

Hi Bill, sometimes new pads on old disc's does that, depends on how worn or badly groved they have become it often takes ages for the new pads to bed into the old disc's and while they do you only have half the brake you should have, some time's it's just best to bite the bullet and replace both, if you do, do not forget the new disc's need cleaning off with brake cleaner as they have a thin layer of protecting oil on them, you will also need a good 7mm alen key to take the calipers off, good luck,Mike. PS sorry if you know all that but thought I would throw it in just in case.:):)

thanks for the advice, are their wear indicators onteh discs? or just tlook for bad grooves etc onthem or cracks at worst, my calipers seem to b held on with big nuts with 17mm heads or something, no allen key type heads in sight.

The wear sensor wires plug into the pads, and never the disc, some calipers are held with 17mm bolts.

What is your car

Thanks malcom to much xmas spirit! you are right calipers are 17mm bolt it's the pad release bolts that are 7mm allen key:confused::confused: PS bill the allen bolts for the pads are inside a rubber sleave which has a cap on it that you prise off from memory.

YEah I know the wear sneors are on the pads, but i wanna know how to identify a disc that needs replacing.

Sorry Bill they are measuerd with a mike or vernier gauge and are only allowed to go down to a min thickness, on MB's this is usually marked on the hub center

Bill

Hi bill, some it is just down to gut feeling, ie what do the old one's look like? are they badly ridged how much of a lip is on the outside edge ie that small bit that's not been worn shiney by the pad, is there any cracking especially on the inside of sprinter discs, fronts are much more important than rears as when you brake a lot of weight shifts to the front, also what buget you've got? AS in my earlier post to you £68.00 for a front axle set of genuine mintex disc's and matched pads is not a lot to pay for the peace of mind you get! .Mike ;):):)

The warning goes away when the circuit is complete and nothing to re set.

You can short out the socket where the sensor plugs into with a thin piece of wire, just turn on the ignition and if the lamp is out, you have the corner with the faulty sensor.
You can measure the sensor on an ohmmeter where they should be zero ohms
