Hello all, a newbie here. Just bought my first MB - a 1998 C180 estate (masses of room - just what I need:D ).

There are a few spots of rust here and there, with a large patch above the reg plate on the rear boot (I guess this car has only ever been washed in a carwash so this area never got a proper clean!). I therefore need to find out what the colour of my car is so I can carry out the repairs. Is there likely to be a paint code stamped anywhere on the vehicle? And if so, is there any websites or even anybody on this forum that could give me the colour spec/name from a code?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Dylan.

Hello dylan and welcome, you can feed your VIN number here and it will give you the paint code

http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/index.html?lng=eng

Do include the WDB 17 figures in all

there is a plate in the boot or under the bonnet with the code.

paint card also stamped in the back of your service book assuming you have it, on the car data card
also you can ask your local dealers.
also stamped on the data stamp usually on bonnet frame or a stamp plate on teh b pillar
otherwise as mentioned use the russian vin site for the same information, may be worth printing of for reference.

Hello,

I needed to find the colour code also and at the Russian site it comes out as 693 Travertine Beige Metallic. Is this enough information for the paint mixer?

Thanks.

Thanks guys. I tried the Russian MB Club website and received the colour code as well as a list of all the options included in the build of the car. Very informative.

I'll also take a good look around the car to find these ID plates that you all mention.

I'm sure i'll have more questions over time as I get to know the car more.

In a word NO I needed touch up paint for my S 320 which is Azurite Blue, the Paint Mixer explained to me that because of fadeing there are 2 or 3 levls of colour, such as "L" -- "LL" -- "LLL" my colour code is 366 but to actually match the colour the mixer after testing a small patch found that he needed to mix 366 LL, if the car had faded more he could have gone to 366 LLL. So basically you need to take the car to the mixer and get him to match the colour.

It it not easy in the paint world owing to the different types of paint used over the years The colour is also dependent on the top clear coat, so what I am saying is that the base coat can look incorrect until the top coat is on.
