Hi,
Has anybody got any comments on the durabilty of their paintwork. As my 96 built 97 reg. W202 paintwork seems very "fragile" chips very, very easily.
Read on American forum that during the period my car was built Mercedes started using eco friendly paints and their were some issues with paint chipping. Is anyone else suffering this problem? Mercedes opinion on the matter if they are even aware?
Any opinions, experiences?

There was a long discussion on this recently,do a search and you'll find plenty, the water based paint is a well known problem and has cost MB millions in remedial work, apart from their reputation.

One of the biggest problems is that if the original paint does not stick very well,re spraying is not a long term cure as it will and does come off, taking the original with it.
Different countries have different rules, the latest finishes offered by MB are much better.
An example is that the paint does not come off my V70 but it did come off my 129 SL, and they were the same colour and almost the same year.
