Hi all! New member here and very happy to be joining!

I picked up my Merc last weekend - it's an Approved Used 2018 A class 180 Sport. I wasn't able to see it prior to buying but saw videos etc. When I got it home, I noticed one area was particularly scratched and the salesman has arranged for it to be taken to get touched up next week for a few days which is great :)

Since then I've seen a few other areas with the odd stone chip etc. As it's very dark blue you can really see them as they are white - they're small but fairly obvious. As it's going in to the paint shop anyway I figured I would ask if they could give it the once over and repair any areas they could see but I doubt they'll agree to do all that for free. If I offer to pay (not for the original area but for these extra bits I've spotted) how much would it cost me if it's at the official Mercedes paint place? It seems silly to order paint for myself and try to do a DIY job if it's going in to a professional place and I'll be without it for three days.

I appreciate it's a new car so I don't think it's fair to make unrealistic demands on the dealer to repair every blemish for free but I'd really appreciate any advice! I'm in the UK.

Thank you :)

Welcome. I would expect Mercedes to pay for all the repairs. That would be my starting point, at least, on the basis that if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

it depends on the extent of the scratching but they may just use a smart repair firm rather than a body shop so it will be a simple job to do everything in one go,

As you weren't able to see the car beforehand I would expect this to fall under distance selling regulations which gives you additional protection. I'd go for getting it all done, exactly as you would have demanded prior to purchase had you been able to see it.

This exactly. As we have all come to realise "Approved Used" is virtually completely meaningless. I suspect also that car traders and even Trading Standards are going to be inundated with complaints about vehicles bought unseen, particularly with the current trend of pop up companies advertising on TV to sell and deliver you a car with a guarantee of your money back if you're not "delighted".

Thank you all so much! I think I just have to muster up the courage to talk to the salesman and state my case. I'm taking the car in on Monday to be sent to the repair/paintwork place. I guess it's just a question of whether I email before to give him the heads up that this is my expectation or broach it on the day!

Thank you :)

Email beforehand - always good to put things in writing and gives them chance to get the work scheduled with the other repair.

Good point. I'll draft something tonight and send it over towards the end of the week as I know the salesman is off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thank you!
