Hi,
Yup! The paint isn't that good on Mercs, most models are the same. At least you don't have an E-Class and your rust problems shouldn't be too bad. Some C-Classes suffer others are ok, but most E-Class's rust about 3-4 years old.
Ho hum! Keep an eye out for rusty bits and don't be afraid to claim on your 30 year warranty if you do see any.
Not that it is any consolation but its not just mercs that suffer from this problem.
Due to the recent EU regs forcing manufacturers to change from solvent based to water based paints all manufacturers have these issues to a greater or lesser extent.
The new Glassurit paint on the current Mercs helps a bit but as they admit on their website now there is no perfect paint based solution to this problem.
Remember the 30 year warranty is only for perforation from the inside out. Other corrosion, door frame edges, wing edges etc are subject to DCUK goodwill (8 years, depending on model/panel) Also 30 year perforation (which I have never seen) is subject to DEALER HISTORY. some have been allowed through, but no more.
I also have a three year old C class with the same problem and i took it back to the main dealer and they repaired it under warrenty three times .
The bonnet first then the roof and then the door pillars.
You should take it back and complain.
Tom.
