paintwork problem

Hi - I am writing to ask if anyone else has had a problem with paintwork chipping too easily? A conker casing fell onto the bonnet of our car and caused a chip - An independent paint repair man said that this shouldn't have happened as we have the toughened paint with porcelain, the chip is like the chip on a china cup. We have queried the paint durability with our local Mercedes garage with little response and I wondered whether anyone else had experienced this.
Thanks
Essie

To be fair,
a conker, falling at the right angle and hitting in precicely the right spot could do it. It's all about velocity x surface area at the end of the day. If the conditons are right, you can get a chip as you describe. It shouldn't but it can. Paint isn't as tough as it used to be since the water based eco stuff has been used. I get a lot more stone chips now than I ever used to but that's progress.
Show it to a couple of body shops. If they all say the same, then it may be worth talking to the RAC/AA and getting a professional report done. I would imagine it would take this at the very least to get MB to listen.
