I have a CLS 350d (2015) and will likely trade it in shortly for a CLS 400d 4-matic (2018). Question - If I do, will it still be a C218 based on the W212 platform or will it be based on the W213 platform? Thanks for the superior knowledge. :)

Before you take the plunge it’s worth looking into the issues the 400d engine suffers from namely tandem oil/vacuum pump failure

There is a recall for this - just make sure it's been done. The OM656 is a superb engine and won't disappoint.
That's interesting, when was the OM656 engine introduced?

As Malcolm said. I only had the recall notice around April time though.

We test drove a W213 E400d All Terrain with the same engine - the engine was lovely. Smooth, powerful and a nice noise (what little filtered through). Just couldn't bring ourselves to part with £45K for it...

That's not far short of what I paid for a new one 2 years ago! (Great discount via Carwow!!)

I'm still a few months from making any decision. But would be open to either 400d or 450 petrol. It will be the spec/mileage/colour combo that will sway me most.

I wouldn't to anywhere near Diesel now in a car like that

That was a 2-year old one with about 18K miles, last year before the prices jumped. Same things is probably £49K now. List over £60K when new.

The only reason I would buy a diesel now would be the form of a truck, or if I worked on a farm.

Just over £65k. With the discount through Carwow and extras thrown in (3 year service plan etc.) it came in about £49.5k. I've basically lost pretty much nothing over the last 2 years.

We might have been / will be tempted at £30K - but I think we have decided just to run the one we have until the wells run dry. Alex Foti has restored it to silent smoothness with new engine mounts, so we are happy.
