The parking brake (see pic) on my 2003 E320 CDI Auto estate (W210) has suddenly stopped working.

When I push down the foot brake pedal moves but it doesn't lock in place. What could be the issue, any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

Probably an issue in the mechanism above and behind the foot pedal.

Thanks for the reply. The pedal goes down fine and pulls the two cables back - but it will not click in and hold like it used to. .

Yes, I believe the ratchet mechanism is on the foot pedal assembly. It's mentioned elsewhere on these forums with pictures.

Thanks,
You're right, it's the small spring behind the brake pedal that’s broken (see pic), but accessing it is a challenge unless you're a contortionist.
Does anyone know the part number or where I can get a replacement spring?

If you enter your vin on the partsouq website mercedes section , you'll be able to view schematic drawings with part numbers. Hopefully the spring will be separate, if not you'll need a spring shop :) like eBay etc.
