Parking Brake Inoperative

Hi - I'm new to the site. My son has bought himself a high mileage W204 C220 CDI 2011 year and I had the plaintiff cry of "Dad - the handbrake isnt working" as he took my keys and headed out the door!

The pedal goes to the floor with no resistance - the cable in the foot well doesnt appear broken - i assume there is a cable from each of the back wheels which connect to the cable from the foot well to the central position - is it located under the rear seat on these cars?

I cant find much on youtube about replacing the cables so if anyone can give me a clue that would be great.

Mine failed a few years back on the S when trying to brake on a steep hill. It broke the Bracket underneath, to much weight. Get a garage to pop it on ramps.
Bought the part of Mercedes and gave it to the garage.

Thanks but I'd like to try and fix it myself - just trying to find out where the cable (and which one) may have broken.

Here's a diagram of the layout for the parking brake cable(s)
The main one runs under the drivers side carpet and connects with the two shorter ones which go to each back wheel under the rear seat.
I'd start by removing the rear seat and checking if there is any slack going back to the parking foot brake. That may rule out any breakage under the carpet.

The cables at the back are fully accesesible from underneath, with no adjuster present or accesible from inside the car.

Possible its snapped the cable, but the root cause of this snap will be a siezed mechanism in the rear hubs, buy 2 and replace both rear shoes and mechanism if you want it actualy work

ok thanks for that - I have been looking under the rear seat which I now know doesn't contain the mechanism! The car needs discs and pads andyway so I will buy the parts for the parking brake also and work through it all.

replaced the cables to each rear wheel - not easy and then replaced drum brake shoes - nearly impossible without taking the wheel hub off! Hopefully the mechanisms that attach to teh cables will work as i have fully cleaned and greased them.
