The foot operated parking brake on my 2001 C220 CDI Estate (Manual) has suddenly stopped working effectively. There is virtually no resistance when pressing it down, and when dis-engaging it the parking light stays on until I lift the pedal slightly with my foot.

I changed the rear brake pads a few days prior to this, but the parking brake seemed to work fine.

Does anyone know if it may be that it needs adjusting, and if so how to adjust it? Or could it be something else? (I have tried searching the forum, but not been able to find any relevant posts)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'd pull off a rear wheel and check for movement whilst someone presses the pedal. It could be that the cable has siezed. I believe the pedal has it's own return spring and if the cable is refusing to withdraw, its stopping the pedal returning fully which explains why the light stays on.
I imagine they are self adjusting. Is it a separate drum on yours or does it work on the disc?
