Just come across these whilst working on my ML.... the brake discs, complete set, 10,000 mile old from a C220cdi:

Basically, the green's  have forced car manufacturers to stop using Asbestos because its deadly and to use another deadly substance, acid!! If you park up your car, typically after driving in the wet, and leave it for a week or two, expect the discs to be etched and you will feel a bad judder when braking. The photos have a red marker to show the etching, but it doesnt show how bad the brake effect really is.

Dont use your parking brake if parking up for a long time!

Anyone else with similar experiences of these modern 'green' disc pads?

MB have had quite an issus with owners parking at airports then being unable to drive away as pads stuck to the discs. Porsche have had loads of Boxsters needing new discs after being parked for a couple of weeks. I have a friend with a boxster I keep ragging him over the 'Porsche Hairdryer' he needs to dry the discs before parking up.
Personnaly I never leave a car for any lenght of time with the handbrake on. Have had experience of rusted on handbrakes and they are not a lot of fun. After washing you could always drive the car to clean the discs if you are going to be leaving it for awhile.
With the new pads you will find that discs are a consumable and wear at roughly half the pad rate (Front). So for every 2 sets of pads you have a set of discs as well.

I can back this one up. My next door neighbour had a brand new 911 Carrera 4S for a while. As he often worked away he had problems with rusting/warping discs and Porsche put it right but warned him that he must use the car regularly (every 3-4 days minimum) to avoid the problem. His wife had her hands full with the children and didn't really have time to go out in her husband’s toy. Guess which gallant gentleman offered his services?

It was a great car which handled well and felt as though it had a lot more to give when I ran out of bottle at 160mph. My one criticism was how dull the handling was as I was expecting a lot of action and feedback when I floored it. It only cropped up in conversation a few months after he had sold it that is was 4wd which explained a lot.

The '4S' isthe giveaway. I do think they issue you with hair dryers when you buy a new Porsche now ;)
