Can anyone tell where the switch is for the parking brake.I've looked around the ratchet but can't see switch or wires. When I release the brake the light stays on and as soon as you move off the buzzer goes.I have to pull the pedal up the last little bit by hand.

I believe that the switch is on the pedal ass:it would help if the parking brake cable was lubricated at both ends, not sure if there is a spring at the rear, check it out here using your VIN and then brakes.

the switch is not shown on the section for park brake the only reference to it is in the electrical section but does not show its location. My problem is the slightest movement of the pedel switches the light on.Thanks anyway.

John, I understand that the switch is adjustable, not easy to get to though,I think it helps to remove the panel under the dash, if you do make sure that you locate the edge nearest the pedals correctly when putting it back, someone on the forum fitted an extra spring onto the pedal to overcome the problem, maybe just lubricating the pedal fulcrum point would help.

Malcolm
The web link I put up was not to find the switch, but to see if the was a spring on the rear end of the cable.

You do not say which car you have John but the parking brake switch the on W202 C-class is located at the top of the parking brake pedal bracket and is probably similar to others.
You will have to remove the driver's side lower fascia panel to get access, the switch is removed by squeezing the retaining lugs together and lifting away ,it is non-adjustable and just clips into place.
As Malcolm says make sure the pedal mechanism is lubricated and returning fully to the off position.

Many thanks for all the help.I found the position of the switch on WIS,as you say not adjustable,I'll have to find a way to make the pedal come all the way back,I did think about an extra spring.

Check to see if the cable needs adjusting. The pedal shouldn't travel more than ten notches from released to fully on. If it's more than ten, by adjusting the cable you may find that the pedal releases correctly.

did you ever sort that out?

I have the same issue, mainly when the car has been parked overnight, i pull the release, but the (o) small handbrake light stays on then once i move i get the big red screen saying release brake with the beeping sound (w203 coupe)

id say it happens every morning, sometimes it worse than others, the other morning it was coming on every now and then for like 0.5 secs, just enough for one beep and a quick flash of the red warning, even when i was doing 70mph!

its a really frustrating thing cause of the LOUD BEEPING it does! ;p

ALSO; i took it in for a service to Benz bavarian - they said they couldnt find anything wrong?! ;p

You all have a spring at the back end, they break, the mechanism gets rusty and stiff at item 81,oil it,free it up,check the spring item 78 and that should fix it all

Hi Malcom. The thumbnail you show is for a 202,my car is a W203.Can't understand why they changed. Might be an idea to fit a spring on the adjuster under the rear seat.I do know MB modified the ratchet in 2001 maybe this was the reason why (park brake not releasing fully)

Yes the 203 is different as you say, no spring. I think that I would lubricate all of the linkage as shown on the 203 drawing, also the two cables that go to the rear brakes, making sure that the fulcrum points all move freely, the only spring would appear to be in pedal.

Sorted out the parking brake. The adjuster under the seat needs to be tightened until all the free play is taken up at the pedal, this then leaves abour six clicks on the pedal. All well now

where is this adjuster? under the rear seat? hehe being a novice , i assume you are just saying under the seat as an idea of the location (meaning the cable is on the outside of the car and not under the seats) :D!?
