Hi all,

went to a well known superstore in York a couple of days ago as usual went into the store having parked my ML on its own away from lesser cars as some people love to park near Mercs and bash them with their doors I even folded my wing mirrors in. Came out and as is the norm found several cars which had homed in on mine and parked around it, to my horror I found a great indentation above the rear wheel arch right on the crease about the size of the 10p peice. I was so mad I nearly started crying, (havent cried in years) believe it or not there was no car parked where the indentation was. Has anyone had this problem and can this indentation be rectified without spraying etc. Ive got a dentman coming to have alook on Wednesday, Can anyone suggest how this can be avoided in the future??

Don't take the ML to the supermarket:p :p
Agreed. It happens, you cry, life goes on.
I will not take mine to Tesco's. If I have to go there I take the Discovery Van, I find that I get more space that way and a lot less people parking right next to me. Mercedes like most nice cars are magnets in car parks.

No choice, it would mean using the wifes Punto.

Take the punto, no one would be brave enough to park next to a punto:p

Thanks I feel better now might buy a heap for the supermarket then.
An old Land Rover makes an excellent shopping vehicle, especially if you have side rails fitted.:D

I avoid using my Merc around town - I take my wife's Jazz.

If it was up to me to do the food shopping there's no way I'd actually go - I'd order it on the Internet.

Sorry to hear about your shopping scrape, maybe its something to do with the world cup being held in Germany, lol.

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago while parked at Makro. I didn't notice anything was a amiss until I tried to use the nearside mirror only to find it was looking up at the sky. Luckily the mirror shroud, mech and glass were OK, but only just. However, on further investigation I discovered the nearside front wing and door had been hit with a trolley and dented.

It took at least 24hrs to calm down and regain my sanity after which I took the car to a local dent specialist. He said he could remove the dents without trace and a few days later he did just that. He's not part of a franchise and based just off J21 M1 if thats any help.

I am very pleased with the results and if you require any more info let me know. The cost was about £20 per dent.

As for what to do to avoid a repeat I usually read the paper in the car while the other half does her shopping at Tesco/ASDA, but I like to look around Makro and paid the price.

Just a little dent ....?

My ML went to the indie, who finished the work, parked the car on the grass verge, way off the road, waiting for it to be collected and a b*dy HGV ran down the side of it, smashing the wing mirror, front rh panel (write off), bumper etc!!!!! How the 'f' an HGV can leave the road onto a grass verge, wrecking not only my car but the pavement siding.... 5 1/2 years, clean record, and this 'f'ing happens!!!!

I just feel like getting something cheap and ramming a few HGV's for a laugh!!!

When we had our Mercedes we were very wary about parking it anywhere, which made going shopping a real pain.

I think it's inevitable that at some point you are going to get some dents and marks on your car unless you never take it out.

The worst dent we got on our car was one day when we pulled up outside the local take away one rainy evening. I slung the door open really wide so that I could put my umbrella up before getting out the car and promptly whacked the door into a telephone booth that someone had put in a really stupid place

3 choices

a) Pinch a disabled space and limp a bit

b) Borrow someones child (with their permission of course:lol: ) and park in the Mother & baby section

c) park slap bang in the middle of 2 spaces, you'll be called all the names under the sun but hey ho...it's a small price to pay for dent free doors!!!

I managed to get a 2 inch long scrape in the paint on the top of the boot of my Audi in a Tesco car park, right down to the metal and about 4mm wide. ON THE TOP OF THE BOOT !!! How did someone manage that ??

I was there a couple of weeks ago and saw this old woman cruise past in a Volvo C70, it was 02 reg and a complete wreck. Guess where it was parked when I got back to my car? It didn't look like she'd nurfed my car with her door but she'd done that usual thing of parking about 6 microns from my door and then "scraping" down the gap wearing somehting akin to chain mail.

I get all my dents and scratches at work these days

courtesy of the people I work with, who are in theory suposed to be scared of me. They are when I pull up in the SL though, as they suddenly think that I might make them pay to restore the paint on my "classic" if they scratch it.
A few of the 'posher' car owners huddle together and park next to each other when they can, but you are still exposed at the edge of the group.
It's not as though it's the old wrecks that "nurf" ( I love that word) my car, it's pretty new stuff, but just owned and operated by numpties who can't park straight and think paint is made of rubber.

I just don't go to the supermarket!
The Wife's jeep has 'female' wheelarches - huge plastic things. They've still managed to ding the doors here and there though.
I always try to find somewhere safe in the office car park - ideally at one side or the other so at least only 1 side is exposed, but if they're going to get you, they will.
The dentman type folk have a pretty good success rate as I understand it.
Take before and after pics so we can judge it.

... ~80miles last week on the bike... this cycling to the Altstadt every night to get tanked up and watch a few fella's kick a pigs bladder around is taking its toll!! Im either getting fatter or more musclier

ML 'should' be all repaired end-next week.... Anyone know where I can get full body bulls for it? Its currently got side and front stainless steel bulls which have protected it from many a shopping trolley, but I need some serious kit to protect it from HGV drivers!!!!!
