Picked up my "new" 320 cdi today - a W210 X reg.

Parktronic doesn't come on with the ignition, and even when activated manually, the displays light up and the warning lights come up (outlines only) but there is no actual measuring feedback going on.

Planning on going back to the dealer tomorrow (some other faults too), but thought I'd ask if anyone has any ideas, just in case I'm missing something here?

Just asking the obvious, that you are parking with an obstical in range, and the shift in R or D.

Yup - tried it allways up. Simply registers nothing at all, even when you get to touching, front and back.

Shove it into R and the rear display in the roof comes to life, but does nothing else. Shove it in D and just the F does the same thing. Comes on for about a second, if that, when you first switch on, but then reverts to "off" - switch it on manually, and does as above, before switching off again.

Search here revealed several instances of the same problem, but no posted solutions. Car had full valet before pick-up, so no dirty sensors. Thought perhaps they may be wet, but been the same for all 10 hours I've owned it. Mrs BT absolutley spitting fur - not good :-(

I was disappointed not to get Parktronic on my nearly new car but I since seem to have seen an awful lot of problems with it, once it gets to 2-3yrs old.

Did you buy the car from a dealer? The usually mentioned faults are either the sensors themselves or a broken wire - MB's Star Diagnose can tell which sensor is faulty.

Does seem to be a bit "luck of the draw" with them. And the dash electronics (although seemingly you can rest assured that there will be likely probs with that!)

Dealer, indep specialist, not main. Will be speaking this morn to them!

Many thanks - will check that. May be able to manually by-pass it to test.

Hi
I have exactly the same problem with a 2000 320 CDI estate, did you ever cure the problem?

Regards
Vern

Hi,
Checked out the parking brake switch and all seems OK there.
Problem still persisting.
Parktronic comes on lights up both front & back briefly, audio beep, but then switches itself off. does not sound when at close range, only initially when you turn it on manually. Then turns off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Regards
Vern

You cant check out the brake light, this has nothing to do with the brake light.

Like anything one cant guarantee a cure but for £9 it must be worth a go, it is a listed fault for your problem

Had Parktronic fitted works great. One problem was sensor failure signified by double beep and red segment displayed. Easily fixed by replacing one sensor (five min job). Sounds like you have Parktronic relay failure

My W208 CLK55 AMG had the same symptoms, popped into the dealer, quick test= Control Unit failure. New one ordered at £300 plus vat.
